These rowdy Canadian rockers formed Hollerado in 2007 in their hometown of Manotick, Ont., but soon relocated to Montreal, where they quickly established themselves as one of the city’s best up-and-coming bands. Since then they’ve shared the stage with such heavyweights as Andrew W.K. and Malajube, and were picked by Jack White to open for his group The Dead Weather at secret sold-out shows across Canada. Hollerado has always had a do-it-yourself aesthetic that set it apart from many of its peers, hosting free natcho parties at Pop Montreal and releasing a debut EP and new full-length, Record in a Bag, as free digital downloads — plus tirelessly touring Canada and the U.S. The payoff? In December, the band took home the whopping $250,000 grand prize from Ottawa’s Live 88.5 Big Money Shot Competition. At the end of 2009, Hollerado completed a marathon three-month “half world tour” that included Canada, Brazil, Argentina and China, which the band described as “like being at a carnival 24 hours a day!” Visit hollerado.com.
