Linnea Siggelkow writes music for restless people. For years, I’ve found comfort in Siggelkow’s project Ellis because she writes about the complicated, gloomy things that can orbit the recesses of one’s mind and sets it to fuzzy bedroom pop. As a music fan with a cinematic, ruminating brain, these are wholly satisfying—sometimes affirming—sounds.

“all that I’ve got” is Ellis’s newest offering sonically capturing how defeat feels. After spending over a year as Ethel Cain’s guitarist on tour, and two years since the excellent sophomore album, no place that feels like, Ellis returns with a wistful, melancholic track for—as she says in her press release—losers and misfits. The song explores the tension felt in moving forward in life but, somehow, never feeling like enough. That destiny or timing may be responsible for growth or acclaim, or the accumulation of simply more, and just how difficult it is to live up to that in reality.

This is all any of us have got and maybe that’s enough.
