Nashville-based SOCAN member songwriters Kat Higgins and Brad Rempel have each earned a SOCAN No. 1 Song Award – she for Cody Johnson’s “The Painter,” he for Josh Ross’s “Single Again” – which topped the Mediabase Canada Country Chart on Feb, 26, 2025, and Sept. 30, 2024, respectively.
Higgins co-wrote “The Painter” with Ryan Larkins and Benjy Davis, and the song is published by BMG Music Publishing Canada. Rempel co-wrote “Single Again” with Josh Ross and Joe Fox, and it’s published by Warner Chappell Music Canada, Universal Music Publishing Canada, and Canadiana Music.
SOCAN Creative Executive Liam Russell presented both Higgins and Rempel with their No. 1 Song plaques in two separate celebrations in Nashville, during the week of Feb. 16, 2026.
