SOCAN returned as a partner for the 2026 edition of Phoque Off, the Québec City festival dedicated to emerging music, supporting artists and industry professionals in the strategic development of their careers, with a focus on practical tools, diversification opportunities, and new avenues for growth and visibility.

On Feb. 17, 2026, at La Nef, we welcomed nearly 60 participants for a SOCAN brunch focused on networking and knowledge-sharing. In addition to fostering connections between creators and industry professionals, the event provided an opportunity to highlight SOCAN’s creative services, SOCAN Foundation’s programs, and an overview of the new member portal and the tools now available to help optimize rights management and royalty tracking. The goal was to equip members with practical resources, so they can better structure their activities and maximize their revenue streams in an ever-evolving environment.

The following day, SOCAN presented a panel, “Screen Composing as a Lever for Diversifying Your Artistic Practice,” an engaging public discussion hosted by Gaby Gauthier-Durand, our Creative Executive for Québec, featuring the duo of Benoit Pinette (Tire le Coyote) and Marc-André Landry, who work together under the name Demain Déluge. Recipients of the Iris Award for Best Original Music for the documentary Simon & Marianne (directed by Martin Fournier and Pierre-Luc Latulipe), they shared their creative process using excerpts from the film. The case study highlighted screen composing as a strategic avenue for expanding one’s practice, reaching new audiences, and developing additional revenue streams – all while preserving a strong artistic identity, even within an experimental creative context.

Finally, our presence at the event’s many showcases – including those by Jessia93, Worry, Basia Bulat, Na$-T, SLM, Sudden Waves, Afternoon Bike Ride, Fernie, Sam Mallais, Sylvie Walker, Valois, Maman, Fleur de Peau, Tes Amants, Dauphins, Maky Lavender, Kinji00, Chiara Savasta, Le Belladone, Eman, and Sonido Pesao – allowed us to stay up-to-date with some of the new voices and trends shaping today’s music ecosystem.

Through its participation in Phoque Off, SOCAN re-affirmed its role as a strategic ally to creators, supporting their long-term development, and encouraging sustainable, diversified career models adapted to the contemporary realities of the industry.
