SOCAN is proud to celebrate this major milestone for one of its most influential music publisher members: Third Side Music. Founded in Montréal in 2005 by Jeff Waye and Patrick Curley, this independent entity has become a key player on the local and international music scenes, while remaining true to its original mission: to put creators at the heart of every decision.
Over the past two decades, Third Side Music has built an impressive catalogue of more than 75,000 works by exceptional talent from Québec, Canada, and around the world, including Lisa LeBlanc, Milk & Bone, NOBRO, La Sécurité, BadBadNotGood, SOFI TUKKER, Colin Stetson, and Kurt Vile, to name just a few. This diversity, combined with recognized expertise in music synchronization, has helped bring their works to life in prestigious productions such as The Bear, Emily in Paris, Grey’s Anatomy, The Substance, and Babygirl, as well as in global campaigns for brands like Apple, Dior, AMEX, and Adidas.
Third Side Music also stands out for the strength of its relationships with artists and partners – boasting a near-99% retention rate, equitable deals, and remarkable stability, even in a rapidly changing industry. “Twenty years later, TSM is still fully independent and no one dictates our decisions,” said Jeff Waye. “We answer only to our artists, songwriters, and their teams, and we genuinely love working with them. Our goal isn’t to grab market share, or sell to the highest bidder; it’s to deliver actual results. We’re still doing what we’ve always done – investing in art because we believe in it. That’s why we’re still around and thriving.”
Thanks to its artist-centric and independent approach, the company has earned numerous accolades, including two Publisher of the Year SOCAN Awards (in 2020 and 2025); the Publishing Team of the Year prize at the 2023 ADISQ Gala; and several honours at the Canadian Sync Awards. In 2020, Patrick Curley received the prestigious Christopher J. Reed Award from the Association des professionnels de l’édition musicale (APEM). Presented annually, the award honours individuals who are deeply engaged in their professional community, demonstrate a strong commitment to creators and copyright, and who have made an exceptional contribution to advancing and elevating the role of the music publisher.
