SOCAN Foundation has launched the Music Creator Day Grants program, which supports Canadian organizations that celebrate, showcase, and/or invest in the work of music creators. The initiative provides one-time grants of up to $10,000 to support projects that meaningfully engage Canadian music creators through presentation, education, and/or community-focused initiatives.

The program is anchored to Music Creator Day (November 7th), a national moment dedicated to recognizing the cultural and economic contributions of music creators across Canada. Funding is intended to support projects that activate on or around Music Creator Day, and that create visible, tangible opportunities for music creators to share their work, develop professionally, and connect with audiences.

Eligible projects may include music presentation activities such as concerts, showcases, and other events, provided that the activity celebrates and/or supports music creators in Canada. The program also supports education-based initiatives, including workshops, panels, talks, mentorship sessions, and learning experiences designed for songwriters, composers, and music creators. Projects should clearly demonstrate how music creators are supported, engaged, and compensated through the activity.

The Music Creator Day Grants program is open to Canadian non-profit organizations and registered charities with the capacity to deliver the proposed project and complete all reporting requirements. Projects may be new initiatives, or the scaling of existing programs. As this is a one-time funding opportunity, projects supported through this program will not be eligible for future funding for the same initiative.

Through this program, SOCAN Foundation aims to strengthen Canada’s music ecosystem by supporting organizations that amplify music creators, elevate Canadian music, and contribute to a vibrant, sustainable creative community. Successful applicants will be promoted as part of Music Creator Day on November 7, with funded projects publicly recognized by SOCAN Foundation.
