We’re back with the second round of our red-carpet interviews from the 2026 Gala SOCAN, held on May 3 at Montréal’s TOHU.
Julie Doiron
The story behind “August 10” is as unexpected as it is remarkable. Nearly 30 years after its release, Julie Doiron’s early track has found a second life on TikTok, soundtracking thousands of user-created videos. The New Brunswick singer-songwriter took home the Viral Song Award—still visibly stunned by the song’s unlikely resurgence.
Fredz
Fredz left TOHU with an armful of trophies. The Longueuil artist picked up the International Song Award for “Extraordinaire,” along with two Pop Music Awards for “Je veux” and “La vérité.” Not a bad addition to the wall—especially alongside the diploma he recently earned from UQAM. Beyond his success as a songwriter, Fredz is now officially a graduate in Cultural and Media Production Strategies.
William Cloutier
A big night for William Cloutier. Alongside a performance of Luc Plamondon’s “Le Temps des cathédrales”—delivered in front of the legendary lyricist himself—Cloutier was also recognized for his songwriting. He earned a Francophone Pop Song Award for “J’veux pas qu’tu t’en ailles,” a slick pop-funk track co-written with Claude Bégin and Benjamin Nadeau.
Lou-Adriane Cassidy and Alexandre Martel
“Lou-Adriane is only leaving with one award tonight—this isn’t your typical gala!” joked host Philippe Fehmiu onstage. Still, the Quebec singer-songwriter made her mark. Alongside Alexandre Martel, she won the Pop Song Award for “Dis-moi, dis-moi, dis-moi,” a fiery pop-rock anthem with serious staying power. We also caught a rare on-camera moment with Martel.
Viviane Audet and Robin-Joël Cool
A true multidisciplinary artist, Viviane Audet first made her name as an actor in film and television before stepping into music as a singer and screen composer. It’s her composing work that earned her this year’s Hagood Hardy Award. She was joined by her partner, Robin-Joël Cool, with whom she collaborates in the project Mentana.
