Few Québec singers can claim to have made their mark in English Canada, but Alicia Moffet is one of them. The singer-songwriter reached the top spot on CBC Music’s Top 20 chart for two consecutive weeks thanks to her song Lay Your Light.
It was an achievement that was not initially part of her career plan. Six years ago, Moffet herself told Paroles & Musique: “I’ll never write a song just so it can play on the radio, or become a hit. It comes from the heart, and I’m not very business-minded.”

Our colleague Gaby Gauthier-Durand, Creative Executive for Québec, presented her with her SOCAN No. 1 Song Award plaque during the Mélo Festival in Repentigny. Alicia Moffet accepted the award in her dressing room while getting ready for her concert under a blazing sun, during which she would dazzle our team members and the audience with her stage presence, musicality, and deeply embodied performances.
No doubt we haven’t heard the last of this rising artist, who is clearly hitting her stride.
