SOCAN presented a “Cooking Beats” online master class with Grammy-winning beat-maker/producer FORTHENIGHT at the 2022 edition of IMSTA FESTA, a free, one-day music tech conference held in person at the SAE Institute New York City, and online around the world, on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2022. The event also included various other panels, booths, demonstrations, and master classes.
FORTHENIGHT (born Charles Jr. Ocansey), from Brampton, ON, earned a Grammy for his work on “P FKN R” from YHLQMDLG, Bad Bunny’s hit album, which was Spotify’s most streamed LP in the world in 2021. The 24-year-old, who’s also worked with Cardi B and Sizzla, is signed to WondaGurl’s label Wonderchild, a joint venture with Sony/ATV Music Publishing and Travi$ Scott’s Cactus Jack Publishing.
The “Cooking Beats” master class was moderated by SOCAN Creative Executive Houtan Hodania, who briefly interviewed FORTHENIGHT to garner some tips and tricks for aspiring beat-makers, then followed the producer through the making of an actual beat. You can see it here.
