The 2025 Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards were held on Sunday, Sept. 6, 2025. It was the first of two galas, mainly honouring television craftspeople, and it served as a prelude to the main televised ceremony aired on Sept. 14, 2025.
Screen composer and SOCAN member Cristobal Tapia de Veer, a triple winner at the 2025 Gala SOCAN (including Screen Compser of the Year), was nominated in two categories for his remarkable work on Season Three music for The White Lotus: Outstanding Music Composition for a Series (Original Dramatic Score), and Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music.
It was ultimately thanks to his main title opening theme that the Laurentians-based musician earned the fourth Emmy Award of his career.
He was facing strong competition in this prestigious category, where he was nominated alongside Carlos Rafael Rivera and Scott Frank (Dept. Q); Volker Bertelmann (Dune: Prophecy); Kamasi Washington (Lazarus); Mark Mothersbaugh (The Residence); and Dominic Lewis & Hamilton Leithauser (Your Friends & Neighbors).
Although he couldn’t attend the ceremony, Tapia de Veer made sure to share his reaction with Words & Music:
“The connection with the audience and with the academy is incredibly rewarding. These are deeply symbolic and meaningful awards for me.”
The third season of The White Lotus earned 23 nominations at this 77th edition of the Emmys, tying with Apple TV’s The Studio for third place among the most-nominated productions this year. As it turns out, the trophy won by Tapia de Veer was the only one awarded to Mike White’s series.
It’s worth noting that the composer announced earlier this year that he would not be contributing music to the fourth season, citing artistic differences with its creator.
The highly sought-after composer is currently juggling several high-profile projects. He’s contributing to a Canadian-American documentary, produced by A24, about the human/polar bear co-existence, a passion project that highlights the consequences of climate change. He’s also scoring Psyche, a movie starring rising star Isabela Merced, as well as a mysterious special project by director Spike Jonze. Also on his schedule are a Swiss TV series, and three other projects that remain under wraps for now. He’ll be a juror for the Cinémania festival, to be held in November in Montréal, and on Nov. 8, 2025, he’ll present his first full-length concert at the Future Ruins Festival in Los Angeles, a one-day music and arts festival curated by screen composers Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.
