Josh Ross was the big winner at the 2024 Canadian Country Music Association Awards (CCMAs), where he took home all five honours for which he was nominated – Entertainer, Male Artist, Top Selling Canadian Album (for Complicated), Single, and Top Selling Single (both for “Trouble”) of the Year.
Owen Reigling was a double award winner, taking home the trophies for Songwriter(s) of the Year, presented by SOCAN (for “Old Dirt Roads”), and Breakthrough Artist or Group of the Year. SOCAN Vice President, Creative and Member Relations, Cameron Kennedy and Creative Executive, Los Angeles and Nashville, Liam Russell, presented the songwriter award to Reigling during the Music Industry Gala Dinner & Awards on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024. The 42nd annual edition of the Broadcast Awards was held in a show televised on CTV, Sunday, Sept. 15, 2024, from Rogers Place in Edmonton.
Other double-award winners were MacKenzie Porter – co-host of the televised show, along with Thomas Rhett – with who earned Female Artist and Video of the Year honours (the latter for “Chasing Tornadoes”); and the James Barker Band, who won the awards for both the Fans’ Choice and Group or Duo of the Year. Big Loud Publishing earned the Music Publishing Company of the Year Award,
k.d. lang celebrated her induction into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame by playing a rockin’ version of “Big Boned Gal” with her old band The Reclines, reuniting with them for the first time in 35 years, and wearing what looked like one of her original Western-style costumes from back in the early 1980s.

In the week leading up to the awards, SOCAN and Apple Music co-presented the CCMA Songwriters Unplugged Series, with daily song circles from Sept. 11-13, 2024. Participants were Hailey Benedict, Jason Blaine, Ben Chase, Andrew Hyatt, Shantaia, Tony Stevens, Jake Vaadeland, The Washboard Union, Dax, Noah Derksen, Parker Graye, Nate Haller, Noeline Hofmann, Jason McCoy, SACHA, Dasha, David Fanning, Lowell, and Brad Rempel (of High Valley).
