SOCAN continues a cross-country tour to mark its 100th Anniversary and connect with its members along the way. After stops in Calgary, Saint John, and Saskatoon, it was Québec City’s turn. On Oct. 24, 2025, we held a Connexions reception at the Morrin Centre in Old Québec. About 60 attendees were on hand to hear from Gaby Gauthier-Durand, SOCAN Creative Executive, who walked them through the services and benefits we offer to members. She also de-mystified how performance and reproduction rights work, and explained how to collect the royalties owed.
Next, Paroles & Musique Editor and SOCAN Francophone Communications Manager Eric Parazelli sat down for an in-depth interview with SOCAN member Ariane Roy – one of the most compelling creative voices of her generation. In a warm and wide-ranging conversation, Roy reflected on her creative journey and career, closely tied to Québec City’s vibrant music and cultural scene. The interview wrapped with a lively Q&A from the audience.

The afternoon continued with a networking cocktail reception, offering an opportunity for members to connect with each other and with the SOCAN team who made the trip from Montréal to Québec City for the occasion. In attendance were CEO Jennifer Brown, Board Chair and President Marc Ouellette, Reproduction Rights head Martin Lavallée, Executive Director of Québec Affairs Alexandre Alonso, and members of SOCAN’s Communications & Marketing and Creative Relations teams.
From Oct. 26-28, nine SOCAN members gathered at Le Pantoum, a cornerstone of Québec’s independent music scene, for a three-day SOCAN Kenekt songwriting camp. Each day, new teams of three were formed to co-write and record original songs together, encouraging participants to step outside their usual creative comfort zones. In total, the group created nine impressive songs through this collaborative process, under the guidance of Gaby Gauthier-Durand, with support from Tessy Pokuah Paquin, Lead for Galas, Programming & Partnerships, and the involvement of Marie-Michèle Bouchard and Thalia Chaput from SOCAN’s Communications & Marketing team.
The camp concluded with a private listening session for a select group of industry professionals. It brought together an impressive lineup of songwriters, composers, and performers: Clara Dahlie (from Québec City, with three 2025 GAMIQ nominations, including Newcomer of the Year 2026); Grace Of Arc (from Montréal); Adam El Mouna (from Sainte-Catherine, winner of the Granby International Song Festival competition); Mahéja Fortin (from Saguenay, signed to Soluté Records, which just released her debut album on Oct. 30, 2025); Mathilde Côté (from Lorraine, member of the band Céréales Dauphin); and Matt Moln (from Québec City, signed to Coyote Records).
Rounding out the teams were three SOCAN member producers who took part in the camp: Jeremy Cornellier, from Québec City, a close collaborator of Ghostly Kisses (publisher: Les Éditions Outloud); Loïc Lafrance, from Québec City, whose debut album La peur est une fleur was released in September 2024 (publisher: Coyote Records); and Gabriel Arseneau, from the Îles-de-la-Madeleine, of the project Tabac Carton.
SOCAN congratulates all the participants who took part in the KENEKT Québec Camp, and warmly thanks everyone who came out for the Connexions event!
