The first-ever summer mixer between Australasian music rights organization APRA AMCOS and SOCAN took place at the SOCAN L.A. House on the afternoon of Saturday, Aug. 16, 2025.

The air was abuzz with excitement at the gathering,  a joint effort led by SOCAN’s Racquel Villagante (Associate Director, Creative Executives) and APRA AMCOS’s L.A.-based U.S. Member Representative, Sam Cook. The goal was to create a bridge event between L.A.-based music creators from Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, fostering a spirit of unity.

Guests enjoyed food and drink generously provided by APRA AMCOS member, and dinner host, Stephen Collins. The atmosphere was lively, with a hot DJ set by APRA AMCOS members Play Cousins. With about 70 people in attendance, the gathering offered a rare opportunity for creators with trans-continental roots  to network in camaraderie.

Attendees were thrilled to make new connections and build relationships with fellow songwriters and composers. Over the course of the afternoon, many new friendships were formed, creating a vibrant, connected community.

Amber Nguyen of Lightwerk L.A. captured the event, which was praised for both its seamless execution, and the promising prospects for future songwriting collaborations. Beyond discussing creative collaboration, post-event conversations included ideas for collective social activity, like bike rides and yoga classes.

The SOCAN L.A. House continues to be a hub of inspiration and collaboration, bringing members together, and fostering a sense of community. In a city often perceived as lonely and isolating, this initiative helps to build a supportive network and sense of community for our L.A.-based SOCAN members. We look forward to hosting many more events at the house.
