SOCAN will present the first-ever JUNO for the non-performing songwriter of the year at the 2025 JUNO Awards.

The nominees for the Songwriter of the Year – Non-Performer Award, presented by SOCAN, are:

  • Evan Blair (who has co-written songs performed by Maren Morris, Benson Boone)
  • Lowell (Beyoncé, The Beaches)
  • Nathan Ferraro (Beyoncé, Sofia Camara)
  • Shaun Frank (Morgan Wallen, Dua Lipa)
  • Tobias Jesso Jr. (Camila Cabello, Dua Lipa)

SOCAN thanks SAC (the Songwriters Association of Canada), CMRRA (Canadian Musical Reproduction Rights Agency), Arts & Crafts, peermusic, Music Publishers Canada, and the JUNOS for rallying together to recognize and celebrate the work of this incredible group of songwriters, who work their magic behind the scenes, in writing rooms. These gifted nominees have had their songs performed worldwide, on some of the best-selling recordings, and biggest stages, resonating deeply with audiences.

The nominees for the Songwriter of the Year Award, also presented by SOCAN, are

  • Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye
  • AP Dhillon
  • Jessie Reyez
  • Mustafa
  • Nemah “Nemahsis” Hasan

Josh Ross and Tate McRae are each nominated for a leading five JUNO Awards in 2025, while Shawn Mendes and The Weeknd have earned four nominations apiece.

Performers on the broadcast of the 2025 Gala JUNO Awards ceremony on Sunday, March 30, include host Michael Bublé, and Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductees Sum 41. Loreena McKennitt will also be inducted into the Hall of Fame, Boi-1da will be honoured with the International Achievement Award, and Sarah Harmer will receive the Humanitarian Award. The show will be broadcast live from Rogers Centre in Vancouver, on CBC and CBC Gem.

Francophone Album of the Year nominees are:

  • Abracadabra by Klô Pelgag
  • Pub Royal by Les Cowboys Fringants

The nominations for Classical Composition of the Year are:

  • L’écoute du perdu : III. « Voix jetées » by Keiko Devaux
  • Dark Flower by Linda Catlin Smith
  • String Quartet No. 4 “Insects and Machines” by Vivian Fung

In addition to presenting the songwriting awards, SOCAN is once again the co-presenting sponsor of the JUNO Songwriters’ Circle – widely known as “The Jewel of the JUNO Week” – with host and performers TBD. Past participants include Alex Cuba, Ria Mae, Randy Bachman, Shad, July Talk, Jann Arden, Johnny Reid, and Ron Sexsmith.
