SOCAN members and other songwriters and composers are invited to enter their songs for the 2020 International Songwriting Contest (ISC). The submission fee is usually $30 USD per song, but is being offered from Dec. 18, 2019 to January 8, 2020, at a “stocking stuffer” discount rate of $25 USD per song.

In this 19th annual edition of the contest, the ISC will give away more than $150,000 USD in cash and prizes (shared among the 71 winners), including an overall Grand Prize consisting of $25,000 cash and much more in prizes. In 2019, the ISC drew more than 15,000 entries from more than 130 countries.

Open to both amateur and professional songwriters, the ISC offers 23 categories within which applicants can enter, representing all genres of popular music. Past winners include Grammy winners, chart-topping artists and amateur songwriters, including Bastille, Vance Joy, Gotye, The Band Perry, Passenger, and Missy Higgins.

You can enter online or through the mail. For more information, visit the ISC website; to enter your songs, visit the ISC 2020 submissions page.

In an exclusive video interview with SOCAN, after a powerful  live performance at our Toronto offices, Elijah Woods x Jamie Fine – of The Launch fame – discuss writing as a duo versus writing with other people; the inspiration behind their new, not-yet-released song, “Selllout”; the futility of trying to write a hit; and how to tell who’s real and who’s not.

We caught a powerful show by Donovan Woods at Koerner Hall in Toronto, on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019. Check out our photos from the event below!
