P’tit Belliveau, born Jonah Guimond, is a crafty one. From the first three lines of his new composition—his first in two years—the Nova Scotian leads us to believe we’re in for a harmless vacation song… but wait!
Rather than revisit the spirit of Les bateaux dans la baie (2020), or once again play with the idea of willful blindness, the Acadian artist forces us to look the ugliness of the world straight in the face. On “Rinque que de même que c’est,” he shoots from the hip at soaring the housing prices in Clare County, the affordability crisis, the oil lobby’s stranglehold, and the climate change that follows in its wake.
