      Vivek Shraya gets into character on ‘VIVICA’

      It surprised me when I put on VIVICA, the newest record from multidisciplinary artist Vivek Shraya, that I didn’t really know it was her. First, a sharp swerve to sweaty dance floor inflected beats. Next, distortion in the voice. Finally, rowdy lyrics: The opening track “Crass” acts as a solid thesis statement for the project as a whole. Consider the verse “flash the bouncer at the club / crass like that.” I probably should have dialed into its difference and the album’s emerging character when I got to “Goon Tune.”    Shraya will be the first to ...

      Simon Wilcox has earned a SOCAN No. 1 Award for “Apologies,” performed by Three Days Grace.
