SOCAN and the Screen Composers Guild of Canada (SCGC) joined forces to co-host a gathering where they could share information and foster connections with the members of both organizations, on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at the Steamworks Brewpub in Vancouver.

Over light appetizers and a complimentary drink, participants enjoyed the opportunity to meet with their colleague screen composers, and hear industry updates from key representatives in their community, including:

  • Darren Fung – Screen composer, Board Member of both SCGC and SOCAN
  • Mike Rocha – Director, Film & TV, SOCAN
  • Tonya Dedrick – Executive Director, SCGC
  • Sara Pavilionis – Manager, Member Services, SOCAN
  • Phil Laffin – Account Executive, SOCAN

Also attending the event were several SCGC Board Members: Caleb Chan, Ed Henderson, Ross Hardy, and Red Janes.

There was a fun round of “Jeoparty,” a quick game to test the attendees’ music business knowledge, with various prizes won. All in all, it was a chance for local screen composer community members to catch up with each other, get the latest news from SOCAN and the SCGC in person, and enjoy a relaxed evening together.
