SOCAN CEO Eric Baptiste met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres as part of CISAC delegation, to discuss global challenges of creators. Baptiste, who’s also the Board Chairperson of CISAC (the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers), joined the organization’s President, Jean-Michel Jarre, and Director General, Gadi Oron, to meet with Guterres in New York City on Oct. 8, 2018.

The meeting focused on CISAC’s global role in promoting economic and cultural development, and the power of creators as an engine for economic growth. The group also addressed the need for increased protections for creators in the digital market, especially since the challenges of the digital world, have created a pressing need for solutions at a global level. The meeting explored ways in which UN institutions can put greater focus on the promotion of creators’ rights and interests online, and how creators’ protections can be integrated into the UN’s 2030 agenda for sustainable development. Another area of exploration was how CISAC can contribute to the goals related to work and economic growth, and promote inclusive and sustainable innovation technology.
