The destabilizing effect of artificial intelligence, poor discoverability, insufficient royalties from streaming platforms, the hurdles faced by self-produced artists to access subsidies . . . 2023 has seen its share of issues that need to be solved and the increasing number of challenges faced by Québec’s music ecosystem. While covering the last ADISQ Gala, we asked a few SOCAN members the first action they would take if they were named Minister of Culture of Québec or of Canadian Heritage. Here are their spontaneous and, for the most part, particularly constructive suggestions for helping Québec’s music. Food for thought as the new year is right around the corner.
