Five nominees have been announced for the first-ever Billboard Canada Screen Composer of the Year Award, to be presented by SOCAN at Billboard Canada’s Power Players event in Toronto, on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.
The nominees are:

- Andrew Lockington
- Michelle Osis
- Mark Korven
- Jeff Toyne
The award will honour the heroes who create the music behind movies, TV programs, and series, and exemplify their indispensable role in the screen production ecosystem. This is the first Billboard award of its kind in Canada, for professional screen composers who make a major impact with their work.
“You may not always know their names, but we all know their music. For decades, Canadian screen composers have been making a global impact, scoring some of the most powerful moments in film and television, ” said Cameron Kennedy, VP Creative and Member Relations, SOCAN. “This award will recognize and shine a spotlight on the creators whose music shapes what we see and how we feel.”
This partnership reinforces our commitment to better serve this vital segment of our membership. SOCAN recently welcomed Mike Rocha, a Toronto-based composer, music supervisor, and producer with more than 20 years of industry experience, joining Robert Kraft, former CEO of Fox Music Inc., who became a SOCAN Ambassador last year. Together, they’re deepening our relationships with screen composers, offering career guidance, gathering valuable feedback, and helping implement solutions that lead to better outcomes when working with SOCAN.
