Mimi O’Bonsawin is undoubtedly one of the brightest talents to emerge from her hometown of Sudbury and the Abenaki Nation.
She sings and dances in English, Abenaki and French, and no matter what language she chooses to express herself, O’Bonsawin has a way of transcending cultural boundaries.
On Steady, she invites listeners to step back, take stock of how far they’ve come and consider the choices that still lie ahead. A folk ballad with touches of Americana, the song turns inward with warmth and reflection—the kind of track that simply makes you feel good. The words and music were written by O’Bonsawin herself, along with Ryan Schurman.
Steady reached No. 1 on the Indigenous Music Chart on May 18, an achievement well worth celebrating with a SOCAN No. 1 Award plaque.
