SOCAN is pleased and proud to congratulate our CEO, Jenn Brown, for being honoured on the Billboard Women in Music Executive 2025 list, which celebrates outstanding female leaders making significant contributions to the global music industry.
This recognition, which comes as we celebrate our 100th year, highlights SOCAN’s strategic leadership and vision, and the work done by all of our employees, that continues to raise our profile as an essential partner in Canada’s music community.
Over the past year, we’ve continued work with Spanish Point Technologies – one of the most important partnerships in SOCAN’s history – to completely re-imagine our database and greatly improve our song matching capability. This has enabled us to meaningfully re-invest in what matters most to our members: their royalties, rights, and education. Our record-breaking 2024 revenues show how we’re already making big strides in licensing opportunities, royalty distribution, and advocacy.
“This shift has allowed us to be more efficient with members’ money, and to invest in elevating our support for creators and publishers, with the services and information that are most important to them,” says Brown. “By focusing on better rates and licensing efforts, and delivering high-touch, high-impact service to songwriters, composers and publishers, we’re a stronger piece of our great Canadian music industry – working together to make sure that Canadian songs and stories continue to be created and told, respectively, and find their audiences.”
SOCAN is setting new standards through our innovative approaches and business philosophy to ensure that music-making remains a viable career for the nearly 200,000 songwriters, composers, and music publishers that we represent.
Brown’s new honour follows her inclusion in the inaugural Billboard Canada Power Players list in 2024 and demonstrates her ongoing impact, as well as the importance of the effort that all of SOCAN’s staff make together, on behalf of our members.
