SOCAN honours Mother Mother’s Ryan Guldemond with No. 1 Song

SOCAN has presented Vancouver-based Ryan Guldemond with a No. 1 Song Award for single-handedly writing “EXPLODE!,” performed with his band Mother Mother, which reached No. 1 on the Mediabase Alternative Chart on July 15, 2024.  “EXPLODE!” is published by Sony Music Publishing Canada, as well as Guldemond’s own imprint, Famfam  Music Inc.

SOCAN’s Sara Pavilionis, Coralie Hummel, and Phil Laffin  presented the award to Ryan Guldemond – who was accompanied by bandmembers Molly Guldemond, Jasmin Parkin, Mike Young, and Ali Siadat – on May 27, 2025, at the HippoSonic Recording Studio. Mother Mother is currently celebrating its 20th Anniversary,  and the band’s 10th album, NOSTALGIA, is due out June 6, 2025. They were in the studio rehearsing for a European festival tour that starts later in June.

SOCAN congratulates Ryan Guldemond, Mother Mother, and the publishers of “EXPLODE!” on this great achievement.
