SOCAN presented a “Focus on Canada” session at the 2023 Production Music Conference, on Oct. 3, 2023, at the Sheraton Universal Hotel in Los Angeles. The panel explored the ways production music is licensed in Canada; the Canadian landscape for performance and broadcast mechanical royalties, both today and moving forward; and challenges specific to the Canadian market.

Gagan Singh, SOCAN Creative Executive, Film/TV & Visual Media, lent his expertise to the event, as did panel participants Nathalie Bonin (award-winning violinist, composer, and SOCAN member); Ross Hardy (founder, hard Music Group); and moderator Caron Nightingale (Director of Sales, Canada, APM Music).

The conference – which ran from Oct. 3-5 this year – is presented by Production Music Association, a non-profit organization of more than 670 music publisher and composer members, who collectively account for more than a million individual copyrights. Its goal is to provide members with the education, assistance, and advocacy needed to support their careers and enhance the value of their craft.
