On April 22, 2022, Lydia Képinski launched Depuis, almost four years to the day after her first album, Premier juin – which propelled her to the forefront of Québec’s emerging music scene. The 11 new songs interlock to create a narrative of everything that’s happened since Premier juin. Depuis is lyrically as rich as ever, in Képinski’s unique way of sublimating her life experiences into larger-than-life mythological poetry. She’s also immersed herself in electro sound experiences that followed the release of Premier juin, thanks to the craftsmanship of Blaise Borboën-Léonard, who’s returned to produce. A few days before the release of Depuis, we invited her to a virtual meeting so that she could discuss the creative process behind this second album, one that is impossible to pigeonhole, and sure to attract praise.
