What is your deepest, darkest secret? That’s something I used to ask on first dates because I wanted to get further away from superficial conversation about jobs or confusion about star signs and get to the good stuff, which is ironically often all of the bad stuff. For the so-called “bad stuff” (pain, fear, shame, etc.) is where the most potent opportunity for love exists. That’s what Becca TG believes, at least, on the surprisingly bright single, “Scars.”
The Montréal singer and songwriter’s newest song about carrying the past with you into a new love is anchored by a lush acoustic guitar and sweet sighs, with R&B imprints on the beat. Some of the loveliest love songs yearn for safety and acceptance, not overwhelming obsession, and Becca TG zeroes in on that beautifully with “Scars.”
There is no better approach to love than to look at someone who has experienced an abundance of pain and say, without flinching, “I want to hold that for you, too.”
