Montréal and the music of the Francophonie were at the heart of festivities that ran from Nov. 7-17, 2024, during the 2024 edition of Coup de cœur francophone. It was a magnificent, not-to-be-missed event, celebrating creativity and artistic diversity. Spread out across 15 venues in Montréal, this year’s programming offered more than 100 shows by both emerging and established artists.
Highlights included Marjo’s intimate show at Les Foufounes Électriques, where she re-defined her repertoire in a bold new context, and vibrant performances from newcomers like Fleur de Peau and Kamilou. As Noémie Laniel, the event’s programmer, told us: “Our mission with this edition was to reflect the effervescence of music in all its forms. We wanted to showcase the new generation, while also giving a privileged place to established artists, but in new contexts. It’s this diversity that makes Coup de cœur francophone so exciting.”
Several SOCAN members took the opportunity to turn their performances into record release parties. Among them were zouz, who shared the evening with La Sécurité and René Lussier at Club Soda; Brown Family and Gustafson at Le Ministère; Kinkead at Esco; BéLi at Café Cléopâtre; Joe Rocca at Ausgang; Daria Colonna and Gabriella Olivo at Bain Mathieu; Minou, with Jonquille as an opening act; Original Gros Bonnet at Espace Transmission; Loïc Lafrance at Cabaret des Foufounes électriques; and Nicolet at Sala Rossa.
Since it was launched in 1987, Coup de cœur francophone has established itself as a hub for Francophone music by showcasing acts from around the world, year after year with daring and passion. This year was no exception, connecting artists and audiences through unforgettable encounters.
