Once again this year, SOCAN is a partner in the Rendez-Vous Pros des Francos, the professional component of the Francophone music festival. The Rendez-Vous takes place Sept. 8-10, and will present panels and musical showcases, in addition to workshops. One of those showcases will be presented by SOCAN, and will feature the 2021 Prix de la chanson SOCAN winner Thierry Larose.
It was after Thierry Larose and his band’s wild performance at L’Astral in Montréal on Aug. 25, 2021, that SOCAN A&R Executive Sara Dendane, and Francophone Communications and Marketing Manager and Paroles & Musique Editor Eric Parazelli, presented him with the Yamaha keyboard and the $500 Long & McQuade gift card to add to the $5,000 cash prize that was presented to him on July 27, 2021.
APEM Awards the 2021 Christopher J. Reed Award to Nicole Beausoleil
Also during the Rendez-Vous Pros des Francos, SOCAN will present the 2021 Christopher J. Reed Award to Nicole Beausoleil on Sept. 10, 2021. Beausoleil is the President and founder of Les Productions Nicole Beausoleil, a music publishing and rights management company, as well as a singer-songwriter.
Beausoleil has more than 30 years of experience in the music and copyright industry. From 1988 to 1996, she worked for SOCAN as an information officer. In 1996, she founded Les Productions Nicole Beausoleil, which provides the audio-visual community with music publishing rights management, re-transmission rights, and music rights clearance services – with confidentiality, integrity, and diligence. The repertoire she administers includes more than 600 audio-visual works broadcast around the world. Among its clients are the largest production companies in Québec.
She was also Executive Director of the Association des professionnels de l’édition musicale (APEM) from 2005 to 2006. Always involved in the music industry, Beausoleil served on the SODRAC Board of Directors for 11 years, and has been a Director on the Board of the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame since 2018.
SOCAN warmly congratulates Nicole Beausoleil for this award, given each year to a person who is committed to her professional community, who shows great respect for creators and copyright, and whose contribution to the practice and recognition of the music publishing profession is exceptional.
